Portraits of Black Lives Matter protesters outside the 4th police precinct in Minneapolis, Minnesota

TIRED. Epoch, a former gang leader and the father of 15 kids. “Not physically tired,” he said. “Just really, really tired.” He’s lost two sons to violence. One son, he says, was shot by cops and imprisoned for 10 years for allegedly pulling a gun on them. After one son died, he said, he cried for an entire year.

“I went into gangs cuz I got tired of getting shot at,” he said. “I stopped being in gangs because I guarantee you it’s the gangs that killed my boys. I wish they’d been around to see me grow into a better man.”
