Seventeen-year-old Oscar Perez, right, of Bedford-Stuyvesant, tosses empty cardboard boxes to fellow stockboy Jairo Jerez, left, of East New York, also 17, during a shift at Steve's C-Town, a grocery store on 9th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues in Park Slope, Brooklyn on June 8, 2007.
Perez, who pitched regularly in pick up baseball games before he started working a year ago, and Jerez both got their jobs through family members (Perez' sister and Jerez' aunt), who work at the El Viejo Yayo restaurant down the street and are friendly with the C-Town manager.
"It feels good not to have to ask my parents for money," says Perez.
Perez was born on November 1, 1990. Jerez was born January 18, 1990.
