Indian Ocean Tsunami

Women have laid out their vessels as they wait for the twice-daily government distribution of drinking water in the fishing village of Perumalpettai in Tamil Nadu, India on January 20, 2005. The area was struck by the Indian Ocean Tsunami on December 26, 2004, killing 37 villagers, destroying nearly all of their fishing boats and salinating the ground water usually used for drinking. Generated by an earthquake on the ocean floor, the tsunami devastated the fishing industry along the southeastern coast of India.
