Flo Meiler, 81, of Shelburne, Vermont, puts on her racing spikes for the 80 meter hurdles before the start of competition on the first day of the 80-84 age division women's combined events, or heptathlon, on August 4, 2015 at the Laurent Gérin stadium in Venissieux, France during the 2015 World Masters Athletics Championships.

The Championships, which include track & field events (as well as race walking, marathon, cross country, half marathon and combined events) contested by athletes of 35 ages and over divided into 5-year age divisions, are being held at multiple locations in Lyon, France from August 4 through 16, 2015.

The first day of heptathlon competition includes the 80 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and the 200 meters. Combined events are scored using an international point table, and masters scores are age-graded so they are comparable across age ranges.

Meiler's score of 5730 broke the published existing world record of 4623 points in the W80 division, set by Johnnye Valien of California. Meiler's score still needs to be ratified to be official.

Meiler and Cristel Donley, 80, of Colorado Springs, Colorado were the only competitors in their age division. They were also the oldest competitors in their event.
