New Orleans Hurricane Katrina evacuees Eddie Nelson, center, and his father-in-law Michael Staes, right, assemble a table in one of their new apartments in the Sharpstown apartment complex in southwest Houston, Texas on September 10, 2005, 13 ddays after the storm devastated the Gulf Coast. Nelson's mother-in-law, Staes' wife, Marie James, stands with Hillary Stalarow, far left, a Houston woman who helped the family move in. Sixteen members of his family moved out of the Reliant Center today, where they were living after being relocated from the Superdome following their voluntary evacuation before the storm hit. Stolarow is a friend of a Houstonian whose family and friends helped place the family in three FEMA-subsidized apartments which they fully equipped with furniture, clothes and food. The C&M Moving & Storage Company of Houston donated the moving van and labor. . A documentary project, part of which was published by The New York Times, about Eddie and Denise Nelson and their family, a New Orleans African-American family who were displaced by Hurricane Katrina and became part of the diaspora living in Texas.
