A meet official, far right, watches the discus event as masters decathletes Pengxue Su, 87, of China, second from right, (the oldest decathlete (and the only competitor in the 85-89 age division) and 80-84 division competitor Viktor Klypin, 82, of Russia, front, await their turn in the discus inside a tent on a scorching day that hit 100 degrees. It was the second day of the men's combined events, or decathlon, on August 6, 2015 at the Balmont Duchére stadium in Lyon, France during the 2015 World Masters Athletics Championships.
At rear are 80-84 division competitors Nurretin Sabuncu, 83, of Turkey and Josef Paulus, 81, of Germany.
The Championships, which include track & field events (as well as race walking, marathon, cross country, half marathon and combined events) contested by athletes of 35 ages and over divided into 5-year age divisions, are being held at multiple locations in Lyon, France from August 4 through 16, 2015.
The second day of the decathlon competition includes the 80 meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and the 1500 meters. Combined events are scored using an international point table, and masters scores are age-graded so they are comparable across age ranges.
