Thiyagarajan, 24, center, Pandian, 24, right, and other village fishermen pull a boat into the Bay of Bengal on January 23, 2005 to launch the second fishing expedition in Perumalpettai, in Tamil Nadu, India, since the area was struck by the Indian Ocean Tsunami on December 26, 2004, killing 37 villagers and destroying nearly all of their fishing boats. Villagers, with the help of non-profit volunteers from AID India, rebuilt several flooded engines while waiting for government compensation; the boat is Thiyagarajan's, the engine is Pandian's. Generated by an earthquake on the ocean floor, the tsunami devastated the fishing industry along the southeastern coast of India.
