Indian Ocean Tsunami

A young boy, center, is celebrated as a hero at his school in the fishing village of Perumalpettai, in Tamil Nadu, India, on January 19, 2005 because his teachers say he helped rescue a younger student when the area was struck by the Indian Ocean Tsunami on December 26, 2004, killing 37 of the villagers and destroying nearly all of their fishing boats. Generated by an earthquake on the ocean floor, the tsunami devastated the fishing industry along the southeastern coast of India.
