A Zamboni, which occasionally replaces hand-shoveling for scraping old ice away between games, dumps a load by the side of a rink during the 10th annual U.S. Pond Hockey Championships at Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis, Minnesota on January 18, 2015. (The machine does not lay any new water down- it won't freeze on natural ice the way it does in manmade rinks.)

This year, conflicting groups in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan are putting on events which are all billed as U.S. national pond hockey championships.
